Process for production of aziridine-2-carboxylic acid amide.

A novel process for producing aziridine-2-carboxylic acid amide comprises reacting a 2,3-dichloropropionic acid ester or amide, a 2-chloroacrylic ester or amide, or mixtures thereof with ammonia, at a temperature not lower than 0 DEG C. The process is preferably carried out in the presence of a tertiary amine or a quaternary ammonium salt. The resulting aziridine-2-carboxylic acid amide is readily purified or isolated by treating the reaction liquid with a basic anion exchange resin.
