Camphor derivatives characterised by having general formula I or its enantiomeric structure <CHEM> wherein R represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, a pseudohalogen group, a hydroxy group or an optionally substituted alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, organic acyl or organic acyl derivative group; their preparation from camphorquinone; and their use in the preparation of 2R- or 2S-stereoisomers of 1,2-epoxypropanes or 1,2-diols.
