摘要 PURPOSE:To cause a transfer of optical power between two optical waveguides and to control a transfer of light with impressed voltage when the voltage is impressed to an electrode and the phase constant is made equal due to the variation of refractive index at the part where the voltage is impressed, by making the phase constant of mutually adjacent part of two optical waveguides differ. CONSTITUTION:When the logical values of an input optical signal IinA and IinB are both 0, and output optical signal Iout is also 0. Also when the logical value of the optical signal IinA is 1 and that of the optical signal IinB is 0, the output signal Iout is 0. In case when IinA is 0 and IinB is 1, no electromotive force occurs at a light electromotive element 31. When both of input optical signal IinA and IinB are 1, a voltage is evoked at the light electromotive element 31 by the light travelling through a waveguide 11, and impressed to an electrode 21. Therefore, the light travelling through an optical waiveguide 13 is transferred by a directional coupler to an optical waveguide 14 resulting in output optical signal Iout being 1.
