PURPOSE:To enable chemical separation and analysis of high-boiling-point and high polarity sample with a high molecular weight in a short time, by employing as mobile phase a gaseous phase mainly composed of steam which maintains the column end mobile phase pressure higher than the atmopsheric pressure and lower than the saturated steam pressure at the column temperature. CONSTITUTION:In a chromatography using steam as mobile phase, a throttle valve 14 is connected to the end of a column 13 and is partially closed to keep the mobile phase pressure in the column 13 at the level of about to 0.3-0.7 of the saturated steam pressure with the column temperature. With a rise in the pressure, the elution time of high polarity and high-boiling-point samples intrinsically longer in the elution time is shortened noticeably thereby facilitating chemical analysis in a short time. A heater 15 is attached to the throttle valve 14 to raise the temperature by 20 deg.-60 deg.C higher than that of the column 13 thereby assuring a stable steam mobile phase pressure. |
