PURPOSE:To prevent an ignition plug from deterioration in an electrode as much as possible through reliable ignition, by providing an ignition means which reignites an ignition plug in the same stroke when a combustion state detecting means detects failure in primary ignition. CONSTITUTION:An ignition plug 2, facing a combustion chamber 1 of an engine, is ignited at a proper primary ignition timing, responding to the operating condition of an engine, with the aid of a first igniting means 3. A change in the internal pressure of the combustion chamber 1 produced after ignition is effected by means of the first igniting means 3 is detected by a combustion state detecting means 4. When the detecting means 4 detects failure in ignition, the ignition plug 2 is reignited by a second igniting means 5. This enables to effect reliable ignition by means of reignition in the same stroke, and enables the ignition plug to be prevented from deterioration in an electrode as much as possible. |
