PURPOSE:To promote finishing accuracy of polished surface of both optical fiber and ferrule surface by forming a curved surface recessed part onto them utilizing the flexible restoring force of a compressed elastic abrasive stick which has specified curvature and abutted on the surface to be polished. CONSTITUTION:After the area to be polioshed of a edge face of ferrule 2 is set at a specified value, and after abrasive grains are applied to the surface, an abrasive stick 31 is abutted on a plate 31 and rotated. The abrasive stick 31 abutted on the plate 30 gives a pressure to the surface to be polished by the pushing force of compression of elastic deformation, which is applied to the center of the surface being guided by the hole of the plate 30. A recessed part is formed onto the surface according to the rate of flexible restoring of the curved surface, along with the advancement of which the tortion stress of the abrasive stick 31 caused by the elastic deformation is relieved. When the elastic deformation of the stick 31 is totally relieved, polishing finishes forming highly accurate curved face recessed part with no position offset. |
