PURPOSE:To eliminate the uneven coating of an image part by filling a coating liquid into a cylinder in such a manner that the coating liquid level is positioned within a large area part in the state of dipping a base in the coating liquid and coating the base at the rate lower than the rate prior to the coating of at least the image forming part thereof. CONSTITUTION:The coating liquid is filled in a prescribed amt. into the cylinder 1 by, for example, a pump while the base 2 is not dipped thereon. The base 2 is then dipped in the liquid. The coating liquid level is in the position of the line A in a flared part 3 when the base is dipped in the liquid. The line A is the position where the coating of the base 2 is to be started. The liquid level falls successively from the line A toward the line B upon starting of the coating. The coating rate of the coating means increases according to the sectional area of the part 3 until the level arrives at the line B after the start of coating if the coating liquid is drawn at the specified flow rate or if the base or cylinder is moved at the specified speed. The speed is so set that the line B comes to the position where the coating on the imaging part 4 on the base 2 is to be started. The base is coated at the rate lower than the coating rate of the image part prior to the coating of said part and therefore the waving is absorbed by the part where the coating rate is low. The uneven coating is thus prevented.
