PURPOSE:To efficiently remove impurities attached to a sensor, by cancelling voltage applied to the sensor. CONSTITUTION:A bias on-off switching circuit 20A applies a bias to an electrode 37 for detecting material to be detected and an electrode 38 for detecting interferring material by on-off switching. As the material being detected is assayed, impurities attach electrically to the electrode 37 for detecting material being detected and the electrode 38 for detecting interferring material to lower the sensitivity thereof. When the voltage applied to the detection electrodes is turned OFF before the electric attachment of such impurities proceeds or in the proceeding thereof to a certain extent, the electric attachment of the impurities is released to separate the impurities from the detection electrodes. Thus, the sensitivity of the detection electrodes can be restored thereby the continuation of a highly accurate assay.
