<p>The soln. of brightener (I) contains as solvent a lactam of formula (II), opt. together with one or more other water-miscible organic solvents, e.g (iso)propanol, (di)ethylene glycol, (di)ethanolamine, polyethyleneglycol or PVP (m is 0-9). Pref. (I) are the bis(triazinylamino or triazolyl)stilbene sulphonic acids or bis-stilbene sulphonic acids or their salts, e.g. cpds. (X is H, alkali metal, NH4 or amine ion; R3 and R4 are each H, methyl or (SO3X)phenyl; or together form a benzene ring). The solns. are claimed for brightening paper by incorporating in the pulp but can also be applied to (semi)synthetic or natural fibres or incorporated into detergents. They have a very high (I) content, excellent storage (including cold) stability; low viscosity and are readily miscible with water.</p> |
