PURPOSE:To reduce the number of tray considerably by discharging document from N-th stage tray to an empty tray in multi-stage tray until said tray is emptied then sequentially discharging document into empty tray. CONSTITUTION:Automatic document feeder/discharger A provided with document trays T (T0-T5) in multi-stage is arranged at one side of copying machine 2 to feed the document in each tray T one by one from the upper one through automatic document feeder 3. Document completed of copying is returned through carrying belt 16 and deflecting belt 39 to a document tray T. Here, at least one stage of document tray T is emptied when setting th document to discharge the document fed from N-th stage document tray T until said tray T is emptied thereafter, the document completed of copying in other tray T is discharged into N-th stage empty tray T.
