<p>Filled thermoplastic compsns. comprise (a) 0-50 wt.% of a copolymer (MI=0.1-400) of 40-95 wt.% ethylene with 5-60 wt.% of a vinyl ester of a 1-4C unsatd. carboxylic acid or an unsatd. 3-5C mono or di-carboxylic acid salt or ester (1-8C alcohol unit) provided that when the copolymer is an ethylene/vinyl ester or ethylene/unsatd. mono- or dicarboxylic ester copolymer it can contain up to 15 wt.% CO or SO2 and also provided that when the olefin polymer of (c) is absent the amt. of ethylene copolymer is at least 5 wt.%; (b) 0-20 wt.% (pref. 2-15) of a plasticiser, a processing oil, epoxidised oil polyester, polyether and/or polyether ester; (c) 40-90 wt.% (pref. 55-90) filler; (d) 0.05-5 wt.% as surfactant an alkanolamide, a betaine deriv. a block copolymer ethylene oxide (EO) with a hydrophobic base, ethoxylated cpds. comprising alcohol, alkyl phenol, amine and amide; sulphonated deriv. comprising alkyl, aryl, alkyl-aryl, amine, amido and olefin sulphonate, sulphosuccinate, sulphonated fatty acid esters, sulphonates of ethoxylated alkyl phenols of oils and of fatty acids, naphtholene and alkyl naphtholene sulphonates, naphthalene and alkyl naphthalene sulphonates and petroleum sulphonates, dodecyl and tridecyl benzene sulphonates and sulphonic acids; sulphates of alcohols, of ethoxylated alcohols, alkyl phenols, of oils, of fatty acids, of fatty acid esters, alkaryl sulphates and sodium ammonium and their amine salts; phosphate derivs. of phosphate esters, alcohol ethoxylates and ether ethoxylates phosphate alkyl acids and alkyl quaternaries; and quat. surfactants. (e) 0-55 wt.% of low density branched polyethylene, high density linear polyethylene or ethylene propylene copolymers where ethylene content is up to 20 wt.% provided that when the ethylene copolymer of (a) is absent the amt. of olefin polymer is 5 wt.%, (f) 0-50 ( 0-25) wt.% of elastomeric polymer, (g) 0-30 ( 0-20)wt.% tackifier. - The compsn. has enhanced elongation (83pp Dwg.No.0/0) USAB- US4430468 A Filled thermoplastic compsns. consist of (A) 0-50 wt.% of a C2H4 copolymer having a melt index of 1-400, which in some cases can contain up to 15 wt.% CO or SO2, provided that polyolefin (E) is absent and copolymer (A) is present to at least 5 wt.%; (B) 0-20 wt.% processing oil, epoxidised oils, polyester, polyether or polyether esters as plasticisers; (C) 40-90 wt.% filler; (D) 0.05-5 wt.% of at least 1 surfactant; (E) 0-55 wt.% low density branched polyethylene, high density linear polyethylene, linear copolymers of C2H4 and an olefin comonomer, polypropylene C3H6 copolymers contg. up to 20 wt.% C2H4; (F) 0-50 wt.% - elastomeric copolymers and (G) 0-30 wt.% tackifier. - The surfactant is selected from alkanolamides; betaine derivs.; block copolymers formed by condensing ethylene oxide with hydrophobic bases, formed by condensing propylene oxide with propylene glycol; ethoxylated alcohols or alkyl phenols or amines or amides; (alkyl)aryl or amine or amide sulphonates, sulphonated fatty acid esters, etc.; sulphated cpds.; phosphates, esters, etc.; quat. surfactant. Copolymer (A) is pref. a mixt. of copolymers (a) and (b), each contg. at least 1 polar comonomer selected from vinyl esters of 1-4C satd. carboxylic acids, unsatd. 3-5C mono- or dicarboxylic acids or their salts or their esters with 1-8C alcohols; copolymer (a) contains 2-30 wt.% of the polar comonomer and has a melt index of 0.1-200 and copolymer (b) contains 28-60 wt.% of the polar comonomer and has a melt index of 5-1,000; copolymer (b) contains at least 12 wt.% more of the polar comonomer than copolymer (a). The weight ratio (a):(b) can be 99:1 to 55:45, pref. 97:3 to 60:40. Pref. other compsns. and fillers are given. - The compsns. are highly useful for the prodn. of sound damping sheets, esp. as backing for sound damping carpets used in motor vehicles. - (20pp)</p> |
