An aq. dispersion of a polyacrylate copolymer, with 20-40 wt.% solids, is prepd. by polymerising (a) 90-98 wt.% of a (meth)acrylic ester of a 1-8C alcohol, (b) 2-10% of a 3-5C alpha,beta-monoolefinically unsatd. monocarboxylic acid and/or amide, and opt. (c) 10-25% of styrene, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate or vinyl chloride. Polymerisation is in water, at 60-85 deg.C. and pH 2-5, in presence of 1-10%, w.r.t. monomers, of an anionic emulsifier, 0.1-1.5% H2O2, and 0.01-0.6% ascorbic acid, and opt. of 0.001-0.01% FeSO4, to give particle size 10-50 nm.
