The detector includes a box comprising an inner (12) and outer casing (14) surrounding a gas sensitive cell (16), responsive to the proportion of carbon monoxide in the air. This is mounted adjacent to an electronic circuit (16) with connecting wires (26) linking it to a terminal (27) on the outside of the housing. The box has cover (28) with an eyelet (30) by which the box may be supported. - The inner and outer casings have apertures to allow the gas to pass through into the region surrounding the sensitive cell, although the apertures are not aligned, forcing the gas flow to follow an indirect path. A fan may be provided to assist the circulation of gas through the detector.
