<p>The process comprises reacting a cpd. of formula (II) with a cpd. of formula (R1)2O or R1-Hal in the presence of an organic base to give a cpd. of formula (I) where m = 0-3, R is a 1-6C alkyl gp., a 3-5C alkenyl gp., alkynyl gp. or a substd., benzyl gp., R1 is a 1-4C alkaneyl etc., R2 is H, halogen or methyl gp., R3 is H, halogen or methyl gp., X is O or S, Y is halogen, 1-4C alkyl gp., alkoxy gp., etc. The organic base can be alkali metal hydroxides or organic bases such as pyridine and tert. amines in an inert solvent, the reaction temp. being -20 to +100 deg.
