An anodising process for anodic oxidn. of Al uses an electrolyte of low dissolving power comprising (per litre) 50-250 g H2SO4; 0.1-20 g of a booster agent chosen from boric acid, glyoxal, triethanolamine, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and glycerin; 0.1-10 g oxalic acid and 0.1-40 g formaldehyde. The Al is treated in the electrolyte by applying a current at 10-30 volts and at a temp. of 25-45 deg.C.
