COLOR FILTER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain easily a desired color and to make display with good color purity by superposing a polymer film having a right-hand sprial structure and a polymer film contg. the cholesteric liquid crystal of the left-hand spiral structure consisting of the multiple-regions having the same pattern as the pattern of said film and spiral pitch. CONSTITUTION:A lyotropic cholesteric liquid crystal soln. 7 is prepd. by using poly-L- glutamic acid n-butyl. The soln. 7 is sandwiched between two sheets of transparent glass 5, 5 via a spacer 6. When UV light 9 is irradiated thereon via a photomask 8, a photopolymn. arises and the spiral pitch in said part is fixed into the polymer. The magenta and yellow parts are subjected to the UV polymn. in the same manner as for the cyan part. The UV light is irradiated over the entire part to form a colorless region to the periphery. The composite cholesteric liquid crystal-polymer film formed in the above-mentioned manner scatters selectively the right-hand circularly polarized light in accordance with the spiral pitch. The film which scatters selectively the left-hand circularly polarized light is obtd. by using D-glutamic acid n-butyl. The composite cholesteric liquid crystal-polymer film 10 for selecting scattering of the right-hand circularly polarized light and the film 11 for the left-handed circularly polarized light having the same pattern are then superposed.
