PURPOSE:To turn a photosensitive drum only by the required minimum number of times of revolution and to expand the life of the photosensitive drum and that of a magnetic substance contained in a developer by changing the stop timing of the drum in accordance with the size of a copying machine. CONSTITUTION:Transfer paper 101 or 102 in a selected cassette out of paper feeding cassettes 91, 92 is delivered in the direction of a resistration roller 12 by a feed roller 111 or 112 and temporally stopped. The transfer paper is delivered again from the resistration roller 12 at a timing when the leading end of the transfer paper coincides with the leading end of a developed image on the photosensitive drum 6 and the developed image on the surface of the drum 6 is transferred to the delivered transfer paper by a transfer pole 13 to which a high DC voltage is applied. The drum 6 is prevented from useless revolution to expand the life of the drum 6 itself and that of the magnetic substance carrying the developer and the timing for stopping the transfer paper is changed in accordance with the size of the fed transfer paper.
