PURPOSE:To obtain a so-called horizontal type thin film magnetic head that can realized reduction of contour effect by making a head gap formed in an upper core and an edge line that makes a boundary between the protective layer of the upper core nonparallel. CONSTITUTION:An insulating layer 4 in which a conductive coil 5 is penetrated is held in a part between a lower core 2 and an upper core 3 of a nonmagnetic substrate 1. A raised part is formed in the upper core 3 by the insulating layer 4, and a head gap 7 is formed in the raised part. A protective layer 8 is covered on the whole surface except the raised part, and a tape sliding face is constituted of the surface of the protective layer 8 and the surface of the raised part of the upper core 3. In such constitution, the head gap 7 and edge lines 9a, 9b of the upper core 3 is made nonparallel. Consequently, the phase of magnetic flux displacement that flows into the core from each part of false gap by the edge lines 9a, 9b is different in each part. The magnetic flux interfere each other, and the quantity of magnetic flux that flows into the core becomes small, and contour effect is reduced remarkably. |
