PURPOSE:To obtain a starter having a simple structure at a low cost, by converting a change in the shape of a shape memory alloy member upon heating of the metal by a heating means, into a drive force for starting the movable part of an engine in a predetermined direction through a starting force mechanism. CONSTITUTION:Upon application to a Stirling engine, a starter device is composed of a heating means 70 in the form of a heat pipe for receiving a high temperature from external combustion gas, a shape memory alloy member 60 adapted to be heated by the heating means 70, a starting force transmitting mechanism 80 for transmitting a force as a starting force corresponding to a change in the shape of the alloy member 60, to the output rotary shaft 43a of the engine, etc. The shape memory alloy member 60 is formed in a substantially spiral shape, and its deformation force due to heating causes an inner tooth gear 81 in the starting force transmitting mechanism 80 to be rotated. Further, the starting force transmitting mechanism 80 is constituted such that the rotation of the inner tooth gear 81 causes the rotary shaft 43a to be rotated through a pinion gear 82 meshed with the inner tooth gear 81 and a one-way clutch 90. |
