Magneto-optic reading system

This system allows the reading of information recorded on a magnetic tape 1 using a beam of polarised light. One cell of a ferrimagnetic material 3 is placed in proximity to the magnetic tape 1 and is therefore magnetised as a function of the information written on the tape. The light beam passes through the ferrimagnetic material, has its plane of polarisation rotated according to the direction of magnetisation of the tape, and is then returned onto the photodetector cells 6 via a beam splitter 20. This system can be used in particular in apparatuses for recording/ reading television pictures (video recorders). <IMAGE>
