A plurality of panels (1) in the form of metal sheets has a smaller groove (2) in the region of one longitudinal edge and a larger groove (2) in the region of the other longitudinal edge. In this arrangement, in each case the smaller groove (2) of one panel (1) is clamped into the larger groove (2) of a neighbouring panel (1). In this manner, all the panels (1) are connected to one another in a frictionally locking manner. The openings of the grooves (2), clamped one around the other, come to be located towards the outside and a rod or a tube (3) is pressed into each of these double grooves. This improves the cohesion of the panels (1) and gives the cladding or the roof covering a more attractive appearance. Each double groove (2) of the panels (1) is enclosed in a clamping manner by a clamping rail (4). The clamping rails (4) are fastened, with their rear sides, directly or indirectly, via securing means (6) on the building wall (7) or on the roof structure. A heat-insulating air space is located beneath the panels (1). <IMAGE>
