PURPOSE:To improve the correction capability by correcting a corresponding word and following an error flag to the result of X direction erroneous detection when an error location obtained from a syndrome corresponds to a word not at logical 1. CONSTITUTION:When one error flag in a sub block is logical 1 and the error location obtained from syndromes SPY, SQY corresponds to any word in a sub block, it is an error word not detected and it is discriminated that the word of error flag at logical 1 is not in error. The word corresponding to the error location obtained from the SPY, SQY is corrected based on the discrimination and the error flag is neither set nor reset and changed depending on the result of X direction error detection at next time. Thus, the correction capability to the error pattern including the error not detected is improved. |
