A process is disclosed for the continuous preparation of dialkyl disulfides in a single reactor by reacting an alkyl alcohol, hydrogen sulfide and sulfur at an elevated temperature and in the presence of a solid, particulate catalyst. Particularly useful catalysts are Type X, Y and L zeolites and heteropoly acids or their salts deposited on a particulate carrier.
