PURPOSE:To attain high grinding efficiency, wear resistance, shock resistance and finishing accuracy, by providing a grindstone integrally molded from nonelectroconductive abrasive grains and electroconductive fibers or metal and having an electroconductive portion through which electricity can be applied to a ground workpiece. CONSTITUTION:A pulsatile or high-frequency voltage is applied between a current collecting portion 4 and a ground workpiece 6 by a power supply 5. At the same time, a grindstone is rotated while a liquid electrolyte 8 is being spouted from a nozzle 7 to the grindstone. As a result, discharge is caused between the workpiece 6 and the tips of electroconductive fibers 3 to electrolytically process the workpiece as it is mechanically ground by electrically-insulating abrasive grains 1. The electrolytic processing and the mechanical grinding are thus simultaneously performed for every short time. For that reason, even a workpiece difficult to process can be rapidly and accurately processed. Furthermore, separate processing is not needed even if the accuracy of finished dimension and the smoothness of finished surface are required to be high. The finished surface obtained by the electrolytic machining and the mechanical grinding is smooth and lustrous. Since there is no strain left in the finished surface, a processed layer whose quality changes with the lapse of time is not left on the finished surface. |
