PURPOSE:To obtain the titled developer having high color forming rate and intensity as well as improved low-temperature color forming property and improving the yellowing resistance of coated paper, comprizing a polyvalent metal salt of a condensation product between a p-substituted phenol/formalin reaction intermediate and a tri- or higher functional phenol. CONSTITUTION:A p-substituted phenol of the formula (wherein R is 1-12C alkyl, 6-12C cycloalkyl, 7-12C aralkyl, 6-12C aryl, halogen, etc.) is reacted with formalin in the presence of an acid catalyst to obtain a reaction intermediate. To this intermediate is added 0.3-1mol (based on 1mol p-substituted phenol) tri- or higher functional phenol, preferably 4,4'-isopropylidenebiphenol to effect condensation. The obtained condensation product is reacted with a polyvalent metal, such as Zn, Mg or Al, to convert into a metal salt (preferably, metal content of 1-8wt%) for obtaining the purpose developer. |
