The method is intended for manufacturing large refuse containers (skips). A pre-stamped sheet metal plate (1) has a central base panel (2) with connecting panels (3a,b) at either end forming transitions (7) to a rear (5) and a front (4) panel, the panels having longitudinal lateral panel edge portions. The panels (3a,b) are bent at 45 deg. about the base panel ends(6) and the front and rear panels about the connecting panel ends, so that they diverge in upward direction. The inner edge portions and then the outer edge portions are then bent to form flanges for securing respective side panels, which diverge in upward directions as the inner portions (9a,10a) connect to the outer portions (9b,10b) via inclined bending lines.
