PURPOSE:To obtain the titled diol having improved flame retardance, by adding an excess amount of a 4-8C lactone to an adduct of 2,2'bis(4-hydroxyl-3,5-dibromophenyl)propane with an alkylene oxide. CONSTITUTION:1mol adduct 2,2'bis(4-hydroxy-3,5-dibromophenyl)propane shown by the formula I (R is H, or methyl; m and n are 1-2) with an alkylene oxide is reacted with >=2mol 4-8C lactone (e.g., gamma-butyrolactone) to give a novel lactone modified diol shown by the formula II (Y is residue obtained by removal of ester bond from 4-8C lactone; p and q are constants fixed by amount of lactone). The lactone modified diol is different from a type to add a flame retardant, and as it has a flame-retardant component linked in the molecule, it neither causes blooming nor damages other characteristics. |
