Production of steel food or beverage cans by a draw-redraw process is improved by using a steel sheet (pref. coated with Cr and/or Cr oxide) laminated or extrusion coated with an inner thermoplastic resin layer (e.q. copolymer obtd. from C2H4 and about 1-30wt.% of a compatible, opt. substd. acrylic acid), with an outer covering of thermoplastic resin having a crystallinity m.pt. above about 250 deg. F, and by baking the coated steel can obtd. at a temp. above the max. crystallinity m.pt. to remove stress.
