PURPOSE:To obtain active material for battery having good discharge performance, especially high discharge voltage by using graphite fluoride obtained by reaction of carbon black having a specified range of relative surface area with fluorine. CONSTITUTION:Graphite fluoride obtained by reaction of carbon black having a relative surface area of 100-500m<2>/g with fluorine gas is used. The carbon black is preferable to be furnace black having an apparent density of 0.2 or more. Reaction of carbon black with fluorine gas is performed in such a way that, for example, fluorine gas is introduced into a reaction chamber, in which carbon black is placed, at room temperature, and temperature is gradually increased to a specified value, preferably to 250-500 deg.C, and the reaction chamber is kept at this temperature. Fluorine content of active material obtained is controlled to 50-64wt%, preferably to 60-64wt%. |
