Known devices for indicating the tape running and the tape supply in a magnetic tape cassette permit only an approximate estimation of the reproducing or recording time which has elapsed in each case, with the aid of a window on the upper side of the housing of the cassette bearing an approximate scale. With the tape-indicating device according to the invention, which comprises a double-armed spring (12), contacting one of the two reels, namely the tape winding-up reel (14) and the tape unwinding reel (15), and a scale indicating the forward running of the tape in minutes, an accurate indication of the reproducing or recording time or of the run-off tape length is attained. In addition, the spring (12), the freely movable end (12a) of which is visible as a pointer on the scale (11), has the effect of pressing the magnetic tape (18) against the reels, so that looping of the tape is prevented. <IMAGE>
