PURPOSE:To prevent the embrittlement of a surface layer and to maintain the luster as well as to increase the bonding strength by coating a base material such as Mg or Al with Ni to form an intermediate layer and by coating the intermediate layer with Au, Ag or Cu. CONSTITUTION:The surface oxide layer of Mg, an Mg alloy, Al or an Al alloy as a base material is removed by etching, and the material is coated with Ni by sputtering to form an intermediate layer. This intermediate layer is coated with Au, Ag or Cu by sputtering. A lustrous coated material having high bonding strength is obtd.
