MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To improve the quality of sound signals by using an exclusive having a different azimuth from those of a pair of heads which record video signals to record the code modulated sound signals to a guard band and using different heads to reproduce the video and sound signals respectively. CONSTITUTION:The video signals are applied to a terminal 17 and amplified by a recording amplifier 27 via a video signal processing circuit 26 set at the recording side. These amplified video signals are recorded to a magnetic tape through rotary heads 4 and 5. While the sound signals applied to a terminal 28 are amplified by a recording amplifier 30 via a signal processing circuit 29 at the recording side and recorded to the magnetic tape through rotary heads 6 and 7. Heads 4 and 5 are set at adverse azimuth 180 deg. to each other, and heads 6 and 7 have different azimuths from those of heads 4 and 5. Then heads 6 and 7 performs the PCM recording to a guard band between video signal tracks. In a reproduction mode the video signals are reproduced by heads 4 and 5; while the sound signals are reproduced by heads 6 and 7 respectively. This can improve the quality of the sound signals for recording and reproducing.
