Method for determining the diameter of a wire, consisting in that firstly there is arranged between the electrodes (1 and 2) of a transducer in a manner symmetrical to said electrodes a reference wire (7) of prescribed diameter which forms with said electrodes a capacitor which, for its part, forms a bridge arm with the secondary winding of a transformer (5), and that the bridge is balanced, whereupon between the same electrodes (1 and 2) there is arranged symmetrically with respect thereto a wire (8) that is to be measured and also forms a capacitor with the said electrodes, the bridge is balanced by displacing the electrodes (1 and 2) of the transducer or by displacing one (1) of the electrodes of the transducer and the wire (8) to be measured, and the diameter of the wire (8) to be measured is evaluated in terms of the distance between the electrodes (1 and 2).
