PURPOSE:To control effectively the generation of slopping in a converter by detecting the generation of slopping by a photodetector provided in the through- hole of the converter side wall, and blowing a slopping retarder into the furnace within a specified time after detection. CONSTITUTION:A light probe 7 fixed to a moving device 8 is inserted into one of >=2 through-holes provided to the side wall of a converter 1. The detected beams from 18 gas and slag 16 in a furnace 3 are converted into the area amt. in each specified wavelength by a separator 11 and an arithmetic unit 12, and further inputted to a discriminator 13 to discriminate the slopping condition. When the possibility of the generation of slopping is discriminated as large, the detected signal 67 of slopping is outputted to a blowout controller 14, and a slopping retarder is supplied from a receiving tank 72 and a supply tank 70 by means of an inert gas 30. The retarder is blown into the furnace 3 within 15sec after the generation of slopping from another through-hole 4' at the rate of >=0.3kg/sec per ton of the furnace volume to control the generation of slopping. |
