PURPOSE:To improve the rubbing durability with a recording medium and to improve the magnetic characteristics of a thin film magnetic head, by joining together two units where two sheets of substrates are put together so as to hold a magnetic thin film between via a nonmagnetic thin film and defining the counter parts of both units as a gap part. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic thin film 5 is coated on a substrate containing a nonmagnetic material 3 adhered to the edge of a magnetic material 2. Plural sheets of such film 5 are put on each other and then cut with fixed width to obtain a unit 6a. A single side of the unit 6a contains a groove 8 and a gap surface 7 coated with a nonmagnetic thin film 9. Then another unit 6a is adhered to the surface 7. These joined units 6a are sliced for production of a magnetic head core 11. Thus the track width is easily reduced for the gap part of the film 5, and the both sides of the core 11 are reinforced with the material 3 of the substrate. This increases the rubbing durability to a recording medium and also improves the magnetic characteristics. |
