PURPOSE:To make it possible to select the drive characteristic of an engine in accordance with the driver's taste, by setting the load of drive intiation at plural stages serving as reference points of drive initiation of a supercharge air pump, and by selecting one of these stages by means of a selecting means. CONSTITUTION:A vane type air pump 7 which is driven by an engine 1 through an electromagnetic clutch 9, is disposed in an intake-air passage 2 between an air cleaner 3 disposed downstream of an airflow meter 4 and a throttle valve 5. Further, a control valve 11 is disposed in a communication passage bypassing the air pump 7. The loads of drive initiation of the air pump 7 serving as reference points of drive initiation, may be set to two of high and low stages respectively having a first load position corresponding to a throttle valve opening degree theta2 which is detected by an opening degree sensor 14 and a second load position corresponding to a throttle valve degree theta2' (>theta2). The selection of these load positions is carried out by the turn-on and -off operation of a selector switch 16. Further, the control valve 18 may be changed over under control of the switch 16 between two operating conditions. |
