PURPOSE:To prevent relative slippage from occurring between a thermal transfer ribbon and a paper and thereby securely prevent smudging from occurring, by a construction wherein a thermal transfer ribbon is bent by a tensioning spring so as to damp a drawing-out force abruptly exerted on the ribbon at the time of heat loading. CONSTITUTION:The tensioning spring 17 produced by curving an elastic film form member into a ring form is provided between a ribbon passage 16 and a guide roller 14. The tip of the spring 17 is formed as a ring body so as to curve the thermal transfer ribbon 9 with a relatively large curvature. When the ribbon 9 is drawn out by an amount corresponding to the displacement of a thermal head at the time of head loading, the tensioning spring 17 is bent so that the ribbon 9 can be drawn out without resistance, and a rotating force is applied to a ribbon payout shaft 11. Accordingly, though the drawing-out force is exerted on the ribbon 9 due to the movement of the carriage simultaneous with head loading, the drawing-out force on the ribbon 9 is damped through the deformation of the tensioning spring 17, and the ribbon 9 is prevented from slipping relatively to the paper. |
