ADSORBENT OF CARBON MONOXIDE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive adsorbent high in adsorptivity of carbon monoxide by forming the adsorbent with the porous granular material of the mixture consisting essentially of copper halide and carbide and interposing copper halide between the granules of carbide. CONSTITUTION:5-40pts.wt. binder is mixed with 100pts.wt. total of copper halide and carbide which consist of 80-98wt% carbide, 20-2wt% copper halide. After molding the mixture to the granular shape, it is calcined in the temp. not more than m.p. of copper halide, normally at 250-400 deg.C preferably at 300-350 deg.C to obtain an adsorbent for carbon monoxide. The calcination is performed in an inert gas such as gaseous nitrogen and gaseous carbon dioxide. Copper halide contained in the obtained adsorbent for carbon monoxide has the structure in which copper halide is interposed between the granules of carbide and has the porous structure as a whole. Therefore, carbon monoxide is selectively adsorbed out of gases.
