PURPOSE:To enhance the mechanical strength of an electrode wire and the accuracy of electric discharge processing, by composing the wire of a core and a coating layer provided on the peripheral surface of the core and containing carbon, to make the electric discharge processing property of the wire excellent and keep copper from going off or clinging to a processes surface. CONSTITUTION:An electrode wire for electric discharge processing is composed of a core 1, which is an alloy containing 20 to 40% of zinc and the rest of copper, and a coating layer 2 containing carbon and provided on the peripheral surface of the core 1, to make the electric discharge processing property of the wire excellent and keep the copper from going off or clinging to a processes surface. The reasons for providing the carbon-containing coating layer 2 on the peripheral surface of the core 1 are that the carbon's resistane to arc is high enough to reduce the consumption of the electrode wire to make it unlikely to be cut off, the tension of the wire can be made high enough to enhance the accuracy of the processing, and the going off or clinging of the copper is prevented to improve the finished state of the processes surface. According to this constitution, the manufacturing and elongation of the electrode wire are made very easy and its mechanical strength is heightened. |
