This invention relates to a digitizing method which digitizes model surface data by profiling a model (MDL) by a stylus (STL). When digitization is to be made, a time (T) required till predetermined conditions are established and a stylus moving distance ( DELTA L) during this time are monitored so as to determine a profiling speed (F) from the time and the moving distance. The profiling speed is outputted along with the model surface shape data.
