Glass fibre end face cleaning system - uses HV electrode point adjacent end face with removal of dust by suction fan

The cleaning system is used to remove the plastics coating applied to the end face by use of an electric field applied between the end face of the glass fibre and an electrode point. The released dust particles moving in the direction of the electrode point from the end face are removed before reaching the electrode point. Pref. the optical fibre (1) is held in a clamp (3) which can be displaced along the axis of theoptical fibre (1) by a stepping motor, with its end face aligned with the electrode print (4). This is coupled to one pole of a HV generator (5) providing a voltage of about 20 KV. The dust particles are removed by a suction fan (6), with a common control (7) coupled to the clamp (3), the suction fan (6) and the HV generator (5).
