Macroporous glass with a pore size of 100 to 600 nm, suitable for biotechnology and technical chemistry; is derived by thermal processing and eduction from mother glass, melted from a charge, containing in concentration by weight 35 to 55 % silicon oxide SiO2, 33 to 42 % boric oxide B2O3, 0.2 to 3 % phosphoric oxide P2O5, 5 to 10 % fluoride F<-> and individual or combined 6 to 17 % sodium oxide Na2O, potassium oxide K2O and lithium oxide Li2O. It preferably also contains 0.1 to 1 % concentration by weight aluminium oxide Al2O3.
