Seals for the surfaces of underground tunnels or chambers comprise a prefabricated flexible envelope which can be bonded to the borders of the floor of the cavity and then inflated by internal pressure until in contact with the roof to which the crown of the envelope may than be fastened mechanically. The fastening has lateral beams or ribs to deploy the top of the envelope beneath the cavity roof to the cavity side walls. Used for lining passages, storage reservoirs, etc. to exclude moisture or to prevent interchange or contamination between local underground liquids and the chamber contents of e.g. potable water or petrol, in chambers typically 90m long x 10m wide x 20m deep. Very easy to install, the flexible lining adapts to small surface irregularities, cracks or general surface curvatures better than coating resins or rigid liners, is less soluble than bitumastic linings. The spreaders inhibit collapse when not full. The lining is pref. of rubberised fabric.
|
