<p>PURPOSE:To allow the detector to discriminate accurately between its vehicle and a preceding vehicle on the same lane and obtain the secure intervehicle distance to the preceding vehicle by judging a vehicle running ahead is the preceding vehicle when its vehicle and the vehicle running ahead are on the same running lane. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnetic wave radiated by a means 1 while swept in the running direction of its vehicle is reflected by a reflecting body and its reflected wave is received by a means 3; and a means 5 calculates the distance to the reflecting body at every sweep angle on the basis of a propagation delay time and stores the distance. A means 7, on the other hand, decides on the running lane of its vehicle from the distance of every sweep angle, a means 9 discriminates a vehicle running ahead, and a means 11 decides on the running lane of the vehicle running ahead which is discriminated by the means 9. Then, a means 13 judges the vehicle running ahead is a preceding vehicle when the running lanes determined by the means 7 and 9 are the same and outputs the intervehicle distance.</p> |
