PURPOSE:To relieve excessive compression stress produced at ceramics, by a method wherein the auxiliary chamber of a diesel engine is ceramics, having a number of projections and recesses on its surface, and a metal layer by which the surface is internally chilled. CONSTITUTION:A granulated particle-covered layer 2, covered with granulated particle with a grain size of 50-150mum having the same material as that of a ceramic auxiliary chamber 3, is formed on the surface of the ceramic auxiliary chamber made of partially stabilized zirconia. Jointing is effected such that the granulated particle layer 2 is internally chilled with an internal chill metal 1. A number of projections and recesses are formed in the surface of the ceramic auxiliary chamber 3. This relieves a heat shock during internal chill, and prevents slip of a joint through increase of a surface area. Further, an exessive compression stress produced to ceramics during cooldown can be relieved. |
