In such a drive device for the cutter bar (24) of a motor mower, which has a crankshaft (44), extending forwards in the direction of the cutter bar, for driving an oscillating bolt (52) which oscillates about its axis and to which is fastened an oscillating drive lever (66) extending forwards. The latter drives a cutter strip (28) which is movable to and fro along the cutter bar (24) and which, for this purpose, is articulated on oscillating guide levers (30). To avoid noise-generating play between the cutter strip (28) and its drive, the latter is designed in such a way that the plane defined by the path of the front end (70) of the oscillating drive lever (66) is parallel to the plane defined by the paths of the front ends of the oscillating guide levers (30) and is at right angles to the axis of the oscillating bolt, and that the oscillating guide levers (30) are at least approximately as long as the oscillating drive lever (66). <IMAGE>
