PURPOSE:To eliminate strain on the expansion and contraction of a recording picture practically by controlling the strength of a brake applied to an ink doner film supply roll on the basis of the winding diameter of an ink doner film. CONSTITUTION:A disk 15 with (n) slits bored on a circumference at regular intervals and a brake 12 are mounted to a shaft 6A for an ink doner film supply roll 6. A period-arithmetic-operation section 17 arithmetically operates the period T of pulses outputted from a photo-interrupter 16 on the basis of the pulses. A winding-diameter arithmetic operation section 18 arithmetically operates the winding diameter R of an ink doner film from R=nVT/2pi (V represents the speed of recording) on the basis of the period T. The winding diameter R is transmitted over a brake control section 19, and converted into the quantity of control of the brake 12 for keeping the back tension of the ink doner film constant. According to the constitution, the back tension of the ink doner film can be kept constant with high precision at all times even when the winding diameter R of the ink doner film changes.
