PURPOSE:To obtain low amalgamated or no amalgamated negative active material without decreasing storage performance by adding a specified amount or more of bismuth to zinc powder. CONSTITUTION:A battery is constituted with a hollow cylindrical positive mix 3 mainly comprising manganese dioxide or silver oxide, a separator 4 made of polypropylene film or cellophane, a gelled negative electrode prepared by mixing gelling agent such as CMC or sodium polyacrylate and alkaline electrolyte to zinc alloy powder which is prepared by covering the surface of zinc powder with 0.05wt% or more of bismuth or bonding 0.05wt% or more of bismuth to the surface of zinc serving as negative active material. By using this zinc alloy powder, corrosion of and hydrogen gas evolution from low amalgamated or no amalgamated zinc powder are retarded. |
