PURPOSE:To reduce the size of the developing device and to give its installation position the degree of freedom by holding a developer between two plates with surface tension and supplying the developer by capillarity. CONSTITUTION:The developing device 2 has a narrow gap between a plate 2a with numbers of small holes 2a' and a conductive plate 2b, and the two plates 2a and 2b are installed adjacently to an image carrier 1 with the plate 2a inside; and an insulating or conductive developer 4 is charged between the two plates 2a and 2b and a bias 3 is applied to the conductive plate 2b. When a latent image is formed positively, the insulating developer is charged negatively and electrostatically and a minus bias 3 is applied; the developer is scattered to the plus latent image on the image carrier 1 to form the visual image of the toner image. Further, when the conductive developer is used, a plus bias 3 is applied to perform similar development. The diameter of holes 2a' in the plate 2a depends upon the viscosity and surface tension of the developer and is selected almost between 10-200mum, and the gap between the two plates 2a and 2b is preferably 10-500mum. |
