PURPOSE:To simplify the process of positioning by a workpiece positioning device for a lathe or the like, by using the difference between the spring forces of a chuck and a tailstock to tentatively hold a workpiece, and bringing a positioning roller into contact with the radial face of the workpiece to position it. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece 12 is pushed from a center 22 toward another center 26 by the difference between the resilient forces of springs 24, 30 provided in a chuck 14 and a tailstock 16, so that the workpiece is supported and moved in a direction A into contact with a stopper 44. The workpiece 12 is thus tentatively held. A slide plate 50 is quickly moved downward so that the roller 58 of a positioning means 54 at the tip of the slide plate is placed between the large- diameter portions 64, 66 of the workpiece 12. A sensor 26 at the tailstock 16 is protruded to push the workpiece 12 in a direction B to bring the roller 58 into contact with the radial face 64a of the workpiece to position it. The constitution and the positioning are thus simplified. |
